Fuchs Lubricants selects Certero to help drive down power consumption and maintain profitability

Fuchs Lubricants, the UK’s leading supplier of industrial lubricants and engine oils, has selected Certero’s PowerStudio™ energy optimisation software as one of a number of innovations to drive down power costs and reduce its carbon footprint. In accordance with the ISO 14001 accreditation, the British standard for the management of environmental risks, PowerStudio™ will help Fuchs to minimise its waste output to achieve profitability and reduce its environmental impact.
PowerStudio™ is a web-based application that enables Fuchs to identify daily, monthly and annual trends of computer power usage and helps set centralised power policies in line with user activity to meet environmental computing targets. Each PC left on when not in use can produce over half a tonne of greenhouse gas annually. PowerStudio™ allows Fuchs to set policies that automatically switches off monitors and places PCs into standby or hibernation when computers are idle, enabling energy savings of up to £48 per year.
Aubrey Bacon, Information Systems Controller at Fuchs Lubricants, explains, "We are a lean organisation and constantly look for ways to reduce our costs. With PowerStudio™, we can set non-intrusive policies to identify exactly where we can reduce our expenditure on electricity, for example PCs that are left on overnight. This information will help us to reduce our electricity output in accordance with the ISO 4001 accreditation and make substantial savings at the same time."
Bacon continues, "With 250 PC users across the organisation and two IT support engineers, we wanted a system that was quick and easy to administer and would meet our needs. Following a successful one month trial with PowerStudio™ over 100 PCs, we are now in full roll out across the rest of the PC estate, including offices and the manufacturing division."
